In a world so heavily reliant on social interaction, it's almost impossible to digest the thought of having to stay worlds apart from the people, places and things we love most.

Many of us are reliant on the daily social interactions we've been afforded through, the workplace, school, social interactions like the gym, shopping and simple social gatherings like a birthday party or going our to eat. Through these social interactions we gain a sense of purpose, sense of self, sense of happiness. Within these interactions we intrinsically express traits of: empathy, kindness, compassion through what is known as mirror neurons. "Mirror neurons are a type of brain cell that respond equally when we perform an action and when we witness someone else perform the same action". Emma Seppälä demonstrated in her TedTalk- When you walk into a space and the person in the room is already frowning, you intrinsically know something is wrong and perhaps frown too. The overlap between our pain (or happiness) and witnessing someone else in pain (or joy) is what essentially generates empathy, thus creating a trusting bond with the people you encounter.

Empathy, kindness, compassion, and most importantly self-compassion brings forth social connectivity. This is why introspective work is key in developing healthy relationships.

With COVID-19 looming over our heads, many out of work and/or isolated, now is the time to focus on holistic wellbeing. Focusing on our wellbeing helps promote the important traits that will later aid in the quality of our relationships with not only others, but ourselves!

This space is created to educate, encourage, motivate and act as a reminder that none of us are alone. If we can come together and practice empathy, kindness, compassion and self compassion we will get through these trying times together!

It has certainly been a really difficult year but I hope that we are nearing the end of it. COVID has impacted everyone’s mental health and it’s so important to have a place to connect! Kate
